September in Kindergarten

Throughout September the Kindergarten class has been working on learning new routines for the school, class and playground. We have also been getting to know each other and there are a lot of us to get to know! When everyone is in our classroom there are 32 people! We have 14 boys, 13 girls, 3 amazing Educational Assistants; Mrs. Kerr, Mrs. Lunn and Miss Cori, one teacher and a pet monster who keeps an eye on us! Take a look at some of the learning, exploring and playing that went on this month!

Exploring at morning centers and getting to know new friends.

Looking closely at shells and talking about how they are sorted.

Sharing a book with Miss Katy.

Magnet building.

Sorting by color.

Building number recognition and subitizing skills through math games. Learning to work together and help each other out.

Outside play helps to build skills in; gross motor, turn taking, sharing and friendship.

The weather has been a bit wet and chilly some days.

T is a fantastic lego builder.

I built a house from triangle and square magnets.

R sorted by shape and A sorted by color.

Fine motor play with Mrs. Kerr.

The students have been exploring the B den playground and have shown to be safe and kind students.

Everyday after lunch we have time to read. It might be with a friend or on our own. We are practicing early literacy skills during this time.

Books are fun with friends!

During afternoon centers we have been exploring painting (fine motor and creative work),

the sandbox for sensory and imaginative play,

the rice table where we are working on numeracy and literacy skills AND

sometimes we have jobs to do!

Just hanging out!

Names are a great place to learn some of the letters we will need for reading!

Building with our large blocks.

Playing with the dollhouse - using our imagination!

Pattern block puzzles and puzzles with friends!

Lots of fine motor muscle building and cookie making at the playdough table!

Making the letter Tt with our snacks.

Patterning and counting through center play. Learning is everywhere.

Daily questions help us share information and practice our numeracy skills!

It is great to see one person start with an idea and more and more people come to help.

The light table is a great place to build, play, sort and count.

Flannel board storytelling.

At the bus barns we practiced an emergency exit out the back door!

Even Miss Cori jumped.
